“I have always looked toward nature as my guide in painting. A painting should be about our thoughts and ideas, not just how well we are able to reproduce nature. From imaginary scenes, landscapes to portraits and still lifes, I have always tried to visualize the finished work before I even begin painting. Having had the chance to study many great works of art I find myself identifying with the figures of  Bouguereau, the still lifes of Latour and DeHeen, and the skilled hand of Vermeer; Lapage and Repin also provide inspiration. Through studying with Jeff Hurinenko in Minneapolis and encounters with Daniel Sprick, I am beginning to find myself in my own work.”
